The Pavers Foundation has recently donated £1,000 to The Kieran McDade Foundation on behalf of Lesley Smith, from Pavers in Coatbridge. The Pavers Foundation is the employee-led charitable initiative of multi-channel footwear retailer, Pavers, which makes donations to charities and good causes close to the hearts of its colleagues.
Lesley applied for the funding after learning about the Foundation which was set up in memory of a local young man who sadly lost his life after an unexpected cardiac arrest. She has previously supported the charity previously by handcrafting gifts to sell at various fundraising events. “Kieran was a local boy and the whole community has been devastated by his death, you don’t expect your child to go out to football and never come home.”
The donation has been used to fund a community defibrillator, of which the charity has donated over 130 so far. These have been distributed amongst local football clubs around Scotland in memory of Kieran.
Martin Holmes from the Kieran McDade Foundation explained the difference that these defibrillators make in the local community; “Our charity relies on the generosity of individuals to fund our initiative through the funding of the equipment or volunteering at our events, every penny goes towards supporting our aims and goals to make sure football is a safe sport to play for everyone. We are building up a raft of paramedic volunteers who give up their spare time to train people in the important skill of defibrillation and CPR, to date we have trained over 10,000 people”.
The Pavers Foundation is delighted to have made such a difference to those in the local community of one of their colleagues and continues to encourage everyone in the business to get involved with the Pavers Foundation by applying on behalf of charities and causes close to their hearts. The Pavers Foundation has donated £1.8million and counting to date.
