Newbury Cancer Care, a charity helping the people of West Berkshire through diagnosis and treatment of cancer and other life-threatening illnesses has received a £1,000 donation from the Pavers Foundation. The Foundation donated the money on behalf of Tina Penny, a Pavers colleague based at the Newbury store who applied through the employee-led, charitable giving scheme.
Founded in 1984, Newbury Cancer Care hope to make a positive impact on those who are affected by serious illnesses. With initiatives which include supporting healthcare workers to attend training courses, providing transport for patients to and from appointments as well as managing the Rainbow Rooms, specialised home style, end-of-life rooms within West Berkshire Community Hospital.
Helen Millroy, Director of Operations at Newbury Cancer Care, thanked Tina and the Pavers Foundation for the donation and told us some of the other ways that Newbury Cancer Care try to support their patients. Helen said, ‘we try offer as much help as we can, from specialised support groups, creativity workshops, and sessions on coping mechanisms, which help patients deal with their diagnosis and anxiety’.
Tina wanted to support Newbury Cancer Care and the Rainbow Rooms as her auntie, uncle and sister had all spent their final days in the care of the Rainbow Rooms. On the support the family received Tina said, ‘The staff and facilities at The Rainbow Rooms are amazing, but they are in need constant support so that they can maintain this vitally important service.’
