The Pavers Foundation, charitable organisation of the family-owned-and-run footwear retailer, Pavers, has donated £1,000 to the Edinburgh based Murrayfield Junior Ice Hockey Club. The Foundation donated the money on behalf of Darren Hanna, a Pavers Regional Manager, who applied through the employee-led, charitable giving scheme.
Hoping to generate continued support in order to sustain the current teams, Murrayfield Juniors are also seeking new ways to draw more members into the club with a vision to make ice hockey more accessible. On receiving the donation from the Pavers Foundation Gary Chamers, the Under 16’s manager, said, “I would like to take this opportunity to express our sincerest gratitude to Pavers Foundation. This is an extremely kind donation and will be hugely beneficial to all ages throughout the club”.
Darren's son has been a member of the team for over 8 years, and they have both witnessed first-hand the passion and enthusiasm of the clubs’ managers, coaches and volunteers. On the benefits that the club and ice hockey has had on his son Darren told us, “As a young carer for his mum, he finds this sport a fantastic outlet for his mental health and has also made great friendships over his years there”. Darren applied for the grant as he wanted to give back to team and volunteers at Murrayfield Ice Hockey Club that have had such a large and positive impact on his son and their local community.
